If you are looking to buy rare gold coins online, there are a few things you need to consider, besides just counterfeiters. Such as, will you even receive the gold coins you purchase? Personally, I have never bought rare gold coins online through the most famous online auction site in the U.S. which I shall not name in this article, (you know who thEy are…) but I have bid on and won a few items that I paid for but never received. Thus began the long process of trying to recover my funds, which usually began with waiting while some third party tried to contact the original seller and prod them to make good on the sale. If I were in the market for a rare Double Eagle, or a rare gold coin, I would skip the online auction sites that allow almost anyone to sell almost anything.

How To Invest In Gold Coins, And Really Get Gold Coins
There are several reputable gold coin dealers that have successfully forayed into the world of selling and buying numismatic gold coins online, but they faced many of the tricks and pitfalls that the novice who is learning to buy rare gold coins online has faced. For instance, remember just a couple of months ago during the Christmas season when Target stores “lost” the credit card information of over 100 million customers? Even if only a very small percentage of those compromised accounts were used for the nefarious purpose of buying numismatic coins online using with stolen information, losses would multiply quickly. Because of the amount of identity and credit card theft prevalent today, and the relatively low profit margin of selling gold bullion products online, many rare coin dealers are reluctant to engage in selling gold bullion, and rare gold coin online. Consider this, how much trust would you have to have in a company that promised to buy rare gold coins online? First, you would have to ask for and receive a favorable quote for your rare gold coin that was enough for you to actually package it up, insure it, pay for a registered and tracked delivery, and then sit around and wait for a check that may or may not be good. Or worse yet, you could get a counterfeit coin back in the mail and a note explaining that the coin you sent them was “not a product of a United States Mint” and therefore they would not be sending any check at all. You would very little to no recourse.

Only by thoroughly vetting your online rare coin dealer, through the Better Business Bureau, The Attorney General’s Office of the State in which they are located, and an exhaustive online research campaign, can you rest assured that your effort to buy rare gold coins online will be successful.
